Chandigarh and Punjab have outdone Haryana in registration of participants for the Second International Yoga Day to be held on June 21 at Capitol Complex. The registration started on May 17. Till filing of this news report, Chandigarh led the pack with a total of 17,352 participants getting registered while 14,455 people from Punjab enrolled for the event. Haryana recorded just 5,366 registrations.
Around 30,000 participants are expected to take part in the mega event. The state governments of Haryana and Punjab have committed to bringing 10,000 participants each.
The Haryana government has set a target of 5,000 participants for deputy commissioners across the state and police department while Patanjali Yogapeeth has been asked to arrange 5,000 participants. The issue of Haryana lagging behind was taken up in the review meeting held under the chairmanship of UT Adviser Parimal Rai at UT secretariat on Monday.
The meeting was attended by UT Home Secretary, Deputy Commissioner, Joint Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover, and officials of Punjab and Haryana. Talking to Chandigarh Newsline, UT Home Secretary Anurag Aggarwal said that the Panchkula deputy commissioner was present at the meeting and they had assured that the number of registration would increase in the next few days. All the participants will be issued Aadhaar-linked ID cards, who will be divided into a group of 50 with one person as a group coordinator.
During the review meeting, samples of mats, carpets and other items to be used on June 21 were shown to the UT Adviser by the company hired for making arrangements for the event at Capitol Complex. All the seven committees constituted by the administration for smooth conduct of the event gave a status report.
The committees include yoga organising committee, site management committee, media committee, transport committee and security committee. The event is being organised by the Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with state governments of Punjab and Haryana.
