In a very rare case, a baby boy in Delhi has developed sex organs of a full-grown man – a condition that affects one among a lakh. The boy Akash (name changed) suffers from the rare medical disorder called precocious or early puberty.
He had developed fully grown sex organs and experienced sexual desires similar to a 25-year-old man.
When the toddler was just six months old, his grandparents noticed the abnormal growth. He wasn’t just taller than other babies of his age but his penis too was developing alarmingly.
“We thought he was just a big baby but later everyone started to point out that that this growth couldn’t be normal. His penis had grown to that of a man’s size and we knew something was wrong,” said the boy’s mother, Shabnam Praveen.
‘A one-year-old baby boy in Delhi has been diagnosed with precocious puberty, where he has fully grown sex organs and sexual desires similar to a 25-year-old man due to exceptionally high testosterone levels in his body.’
Akash’s parents first noticed these abnormal changes in this body at six months of age. They were ignoring it by assuming that he was a big baby. But his grandmother told them that his changes are very unusual and they decided to consult a doctor.
By the time they took him to a doctor, he was 18-months, 95cm tall, had facial hair and his voice also started breaking. Doctors at the Max Super Specialty Hospital found the case very shocking.
This disorder is termed as precocious puberty or early puberty, which affects only one in 100,000 children in the age group of 8 to 10 years. But, this case is extremely rare as the boy has attented puberty at the age of one.
Doctors told that the boy had this condition because of increased testosterone levels in his body. Therefore, they are now treating the boy with hormone block therapy under which the boy needs to be injected once every month to block the effects of testosterone. He would be treated with the therapy for the next 10 to 12 years.
