Here are the health benefits and brewing methods of some of the more teas available in the market today

Tea connoisseur Radhika Batra Shah conducted a tea ceremony and gave us the health benefits and perfect brewing methods to some exotic teas.

LONGJING TEA

From the mountain lakes of Hangzhou in China, this is one of the most purest and popular green tea variants. These pan fired leaves yield a pale yellow liqueur and a slightly sweet cherry blossom aroma. Shah says, “It aids in a healthy detox process If had after meals it helps in weight loss, however, only if alongside a healthy diet and lifestyle.“

Method:

Warm a teapot and a teacup with hot water, drain and dry them.Spoon one teaspoon green Longjing tea and add the boiling water. Cover with a tea towel and let it steep for 5 minutes. Stir and strain into hot cups.

DARJEELING BLACK TEA

This is a good mid–moring tea, that comes from a late spring first flush, it is also known as India’s Champagne of teas as it yields a bold orange liqueur and bouquet of straw, wood berries and honeysuckle. Stressing on its health benefits Shah says, “It is a soothing pick me up tea that doesn’t have any side effects of caffeine and at the same time gives one the needed stimulant to go through a hectic day.“

DARJEELING BLACK TEA

 

Method:

Warm a teapot and teacup with hot water, drain and dry them. Spoon two teaspoons Darjeeling Black tea and add boiling water. Cover with a tea towel and steep for 5 minutes. Stir and strain into hot cups. Black Indian tea takes to milk, so you can serve the milk on the side.You could further enhance the flavours by adding herbs like tulsi and ginger in the morning and cinnamon and cardamom in the evening.

ZORAAT FLOWER TEA

This is a Middle Eastern flower blend that is bedecked with colourful flecks of dried flower petals of rose, chrysanthemum, marigold and jasmine. It gives out a floral aroma and is a graceful addition to a romantic and exquisite after luncheon tea. According to Shah this is an excellent digestive post a heavy meal. Zoraat also has the calming properties of de–stressing and relieving from the chaos of a hectic life.

Method:

Warm a teapot and teacup with hot water, drain and dry them. Spoon 1 teaspoon flower tea in the teapot and add 2 cups boiling water. Cover the tea and steep for 5 minutes. Stir and strain into hot cups. This can be blended alongside black tea for a stronger version.

OOLONG SHANGHAI TEA

Oolong Shanghai tea is regarded as the ultimate accompaniment to meals due to its oven-fried toasty aroma that exudes a light toasty sweetness.Elaborating on its health benefits, Shah says, “Oolong has known to help heal heart related issues, cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes. A smooth semi fermented tea gives the benefits of taste and health.“

OOLONG SHANGHAI TEA

Method:

After warming the teapot and teacup with hot water, drain and dry them. Spoon 1 teaspoon Oolong tea in the teapot and add 2 cups of boiling water. Cover and steep for 5 minutes. Stir and strain into hot cups. For an added flavour you can swirl these with cinnamon sticks and vanilla pods.

FRUITY LOVER’S TEA

This is an exquisite blend of fresh fruits and dry fruits. Shah says, “This delectable concoction of fruits and herbs aids in a healthy sleep pattern and is great for the sleep deprived.

FRUITY LOVER'S TEA

Method:

Warm a tea pot and teacup with hot water.Drain and dry them. Spoon 1½ teaspoons of Lovers tea in the teapot and add 2 cups of boiling water.Cover the tea and let it steep for 5 minutes, Stir and strain into hot cups.This tea is excellent as an after dinner dessert option.
