Green Tribunal Stops Operations In Jubilant Life Sciences & Teva API India Ltd.’

The National Green Tribunal today ordered closure of  Amroha-based drug firm JUBILANT LIFE SCIENCES & Teva API India Ltd., after inspections found them violating pollution norms.

The units situated near the river Bagad in Gajraula were asked to cease operations by the tribunal citing pollution of the river Ganga and the drainage canals leading to it.

“The NGT has closed all units in Gajraula and we are not violating any norms,” Shyam Bhartia, chairman and managing director of Jubilant Life Sciences told BloombergQuint over the phone. At least three to four days of production will be affected in the said unit, he added.

The industrial units to be closed are Jubilant Lifesciences Ltd (distillery unit), Jubilant Industries Ltd. (Polymer unit), Jubilant lifesciences ltd (chemical unit -1), Jubilant lifesciences ltd (chemical unit -2), Jubilant Agri & Consumer Products, Jain Distillery Pvt Ltd, Teva API India Ltd.

The company is likely to submit an action plan to the NGT by May 2, Bhartia said.

Shares of Jubilant Life Sciences fell as much as 2.94 percent to Rs 760 in early trade on the National Stock Exchange.
